June 17th & 18th Rides

Posted by Picasa

If I can get the crack in my frame welded in time we will go on next weeks rides listed below. NO I WAS NOT RIDING THE RAMPS IN THE SKATE PARK. I figured you would ask; but, actually there is no event I can associate this with. Perhaps after nearly 5000 miles my beloved handcycle has gone kaput. This is the second break due to what seems to be fatigue within a year. Please contribute any advice you may have on its repair in the comments on this blog.

NEXT WEEKS RIDES:

Title: Waterfront Renaissance Trail
When: 2006/06/17
10:00AM - 12:00PM
Where:
Meet at Wintler Park Situated on the bank of the Columbia River.
Description: This 14-foot-wide, shared-use concrete trail is the crowning jewel of Vancouver's Columbia River Waterfront Renaissance, connecting the downtown area to the city's long-neglected shoreline. The trail follows the Columbia River, passing Vancouver Landing, the Captain Vancouver Monument and the plaza dedicated to Ilchee, a Native Indian chief's daughter.

The Water Resources Education Center lies along the trail, as do the Old Apple Tree, Marine Park, Kaiser Viewing Tower and Shipyards, and Tidewater Cove. Along the way are shops, restaurants and great places to picnic, play or just enjoy the view. The trail will continue east with the future Wintler Park extension. Check Ride Details for a map, driving directions and a complete description of the trail.

Looks to me like your new hand cranks have 'pushed the limits' of your bike. Bicycle tubing does fatigue after many miles although I've never put that many on any one bike to have that happen. Actually you should be proud. Personally, I'd get it welded and then hang it in your garage/bicyle museum. Every morning when you go to work you can feel proud of what you have done. You got the dough - go buy the best new bike you can afford. There used to be an off-brand beer sold in Chicago. It was was called Meister Brau. One of there ad blips used a slogan I have always tried to live by and so should YOU! 'Life is short - grab for all the gusto you can get!' Translated from German this means buy yourself a new set of wheels! Someday after you are long gone your kid will be cleaning out your garage/bicycle museum and he will say...'Damn, the old man grabbed for all the gusto he could get...what a cool dude (of course we already new that)!
